Captain’s Report – April 2022

April has been jam-packed with races, and some stellar performances.

Will & Thomas Newnham’s hard training over the last 6-8 months paid off, both achieving sub 2h 30m for Manchester Marathon, and racing side by side with the female winner (See the race video coverage). Holly also had a good race, but with a less than ideal start to the race day, she didn’t quite make her goal of sub 3h, but an excellent time none the less.

After a 2-year hiatus, the Easter races finally returned, and we were able to see the wonderful interlocking medals that Sarah Probert designed. The races were a great success with perfect weather, thank you to Hayley and her team for putting on these races.

Towards the end of the month Harriers have taken part in races in Southampton, Worthing, and the very gruelling IOW Challenge.

Simon Levrier (Full 65m) DNF at 49m

After starting at 07:00, Simon reached the half way point at the County Ground. Fed, watered, feet tendered to, warm clothes and he’s ready for the off at 18:45. Only another 53k to go dear. He’s going really well. I was tasked to do an update as he’s not been on his phone all day, only to contact me. So, you’ll get a full report when he recovers after he’s finished. Whoop Whoop Simon.

Big thanks to Angela and Gary. Couldn’t have managed without you. And Mr Badass himself Stuart and Caroline who paid a welcome surprise visit! Love you guys.

Thankyou everyone for your wonderful words of support. Really does mean a lot to us both.

Update: Simon DNF at Seaview, 49 miles, due to horrible blisters on both feet. Too painful with each step to carry on. He’s absolutely gutted. Sorry folks, he did his best.
