Club Safety & Welfare Officers
Club Safety
It is important that all club members take responsibility for their own safety when running, whilst keeping a watchful eye on others, particularly new members.
All runners should familiarise themselves with the route for each run and make sure they have “checked in” before setting off so we can make sure all runners are accounted for at the end of the session.
If you encounter any problems on a route (potholes, poor visibility etc) then please report it when you return.
It is important that all runners wear the appropriate clothing and footwear for their run and during the winter series the club does enforce that all members must wear a white top and hi-viz bib/top for club night runs.
There are first aid kits available at both the Club House (in the cupboard) and at the track (in the store) and can be accessed during club night runs.
For safety reasons we encourage all members to run with a mobile phone in case of an emergency. If appropriate, emergency services should be contacted using 112 from a mobile phone as it will record your location; alternatively use 999.
What3Words is a great app to have installed on your mobile phone to give you a unique location reference should you become lost or injured whilst out running.
Members can also familiarise themselves with the website https://www.defibfinder.uk/, which shows the nearest defib based on location, to have an idea of where defibs are available around Ryde.
Any accidents that happen on a club night, either at the club house or track, must be reported.
Welfare Officers
If you have any concerns regarding the welfare of a fellow Harrier; or you are unhappy about the behaviour of another member or you yourself require help then please contact our Welfare team. You can speak directly to our Welfare Officers Caroline Dall-Whittall or Sarah Luton or email them at [email protected].
Caroline and Sarah are there to ensure that the club fulfils its safeguarding responsibilities to all club members. As a club we pride ourselves on operating an environment that makes members feel safe, supported and included when they run. If there is something that you are not happy about or feel uncomfortable with then contact them. Please be assured that all concerns will be dealt with sensitively, promptly and in confidence.
