Roundup:
Well done to all those that have taken part in a Hampshire Road Race League race, you have all contribute to the club’s team ranking in the league.
Congratulations to those that completed 6 or more of the league races, you will be receiving a mug with your name and position on it. For those that completed all 10 in this year’s league, you will also receive a T-Shirt. Mugs and T-Shirt are normally distributed by the league at the Overton 5m race in September.
A particular well-done to Simon and Adam for achieving the highest individual score that Ryde Harriers has seen in a long time.
For the men’s team it was a close competition, and went right down to the last race, but unfortunately Harriers missed out on promotion into the 1st division by just 6 positions.
Although this is a great improvement on the 8th place we achieved in the 2018/19 season, we are still being held back by not fielding full teams for all the races. Looking back at the results for this season, it could be argued that we lost the race right at the start of the season, when we had an incomplete team for Overton 5m, putting us on the back foot from the off.
Looking at all 30 of the men’s teams in the league, Harriers should be placing around 4th overall based just on positions, but we will be stuck in division 2 for another year.
For the Ladies team, finishing 4th in division 2 was great improvement on the 9th place we achieved in the 2018/19 season, and with some brilliant results for some of the races. But for the majority of the races there was not enough ladies for a complete team, resulting in the team slipping down the table, rather than what should have been an easy promotion.
Succeeding as a team wouldn’t be as satisfying if it was easy!

How to get Involved:
You don’t have to be fast to be part of the club team, all runners contribute to the club’s team ranking in the league, whether you just run one race or several of them. There are also individual rankings within the league for those that do 7 of more of the 12 races.
Because most of the league races are on the mainland the club will reimburse reasonable travel cost after the first £15 for any Hampshire Road Race League or Hampshire Cross Country League race, when traveling in a group. We usually arrange group transport to make things easier as well.
Please remember these are all popular races and nearly always fill up weeks before the race. If you want to enter any of these races, we recommend doing so at least 6 weeks in advance of the race. We will try and let you know via facebook as races start to fill up.
