Congratulations to those who graduated from our 8-week Beginners course on 20th June, when they completed their first 5km run along the sea front.

Dan Eckersley 09:59.40 (3rd Overall)

Continuing his fine run of form on the track and on the road, Ryde Harrier Dan Eckersley competed in the South of England Championships over his favourite track distance the 3000m Steeplechase.

In a very tight race Dan was chasing down leader Lewis Harknett from Orion Harriers but unfortunately twisted awkwardly on landing over the last water barrier causing severe pain to his Achilles tendon.

After regaining his momentum Dan bravely attempted to finish the race and enthusiastically cheered on by the capacity crowd at the Thames Valley Stadium crossed the line in a time of 9min 59.40 sec to earn his place on the podium to receive his South of England bronze medal.

A team of 7 Ryde Harriers travelled to Alresford, the home of the Watercress line, to take part in the penultimate event in the Hampshire Road Race league. Setting out on yet another 06:00 ferry, the weather had at least calmed from the heigh winds the previous day, with near perfect conditions for racing.

The course headed down the old high street then looped around the back of the town and into the country side, with an out and back section over rolling hills, and returning to the town via a long avenue of trees.

The whole team ran well, and those that have so far competed in all of the races in the league are looking forward to receiving the highlight sought after competitive T-shirt once they complete the 12th and final race Lordshill 10km in a couple of weeks’ time.
