The Men’s Half Marathon was full of drama from before the race began. Joe Wade unfortunately became unwell on his arrival on Thursday night, and had to be replaced at last minute by Chris Newnham, who only had confirmation of running at 5:50am on the day.

It was a high-quality field and Will Newnham did very well to come 8th in a time of 1:11.02, brother Tom slipped back in the field having slipped on the wet cobbles causing him pain and discomfort, he fell one place behind Chris who finished well in a time of 1:14.42, in so doing felt he had redeemed himself as he personally considered his 5,000m to have been a difficult race for him. The team were 4th, all things considered a superb effort.

8th individual and 4th team. Proud to wear the IOW strip on an international stage and lead our team home.

Toughed it out in a very strong field. Disappointed with the result but not with how I raced. Been struggling to tap into what I know is there, but that is running. They don’t all go smoothly!

I stood on the start line knowing I haven’t cut any corners and I was fit just haven’t felt sharp in weeks and it showed. Leaves me wanting more as we head into the second half of the year.
