The Track Is Back

We are delighted to announce that Club use of the track at Sandown will restart on Tuesday 8th September. This has only been possible because of the excellent work undertaken by the Isle of Wight Athletics Club – and in particular Nick Groocock – who undertook the initial discussions with the Isle Of Wight Council in order to secure Club use of the track, and the input of our own Geoff Watkin.
In the current climate we cannot unfortunately allow members to use the track in unlimited numbers and the sessions will have to be carefully structured. As a trial, the first week’s session will be attended by those Harriers currently trained by Geoff, but in subsequent weeks will be opened up to allow a further group of up to 12 Harriers to attend.
In the first instance the track sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6.00 to 7.00pm. Depending on the level of interest, it may be necessary to have a rota to allow all those wishing to attend the opportunity to participate. In due course there may be potential to hold a second weekly session if there is a sustained demand for places.
Those wishing to participate will need to read and sign the Code of Conduct, which can be found here Code of Conduct, which sets out a series of simple rules which need to be followed to ensure compliance with the Risk Assessment, Risk-Assessment. You will need to bring a signed copy of the Code of Conduct to your first session back at the track otherwise you will not be permitted to participate. Key requirements set out in the Code include the need to use the eastern car park adjacent to the 1500m start and hammer cage, rather than the car park to the front of the Sports Centre. The track must be entered from this car park, adhering to the clearly marked one way system. You will also need to ensure that you bring your own sanitiser to the sessions. Please note that the Sports Centre is not currently staffed and none of the facilities will be available. There is however a portaloo facility adjacent to the track which can be used.
So that we can plan the sessions, can those interested in participating please email Rowland Sillito: Run Leaders
