It’s just under two weeks until we switch over into the Summer series of Tuesday night club runs and I, for one, am very excited. For newer club members it will be the first time to hit the track at Sandown and feel, as Brian Warren stated recent, ‘like we’re in the Olympics!” but don’t worry if the track isn’t your thing as there is always a club run from the rowing club every week.
My personnel highlights on the track are the shorter races with the 1500m on May 19th, 400m on Jun 30th and 800m on August 11th. Plus, the dream mile! The hotly contested club mile championship is always the finale on the track in September. It’s been years since a Harrier went under five minutes to win it…could this be the year? In between all this there is the soul-searching challenge of 10km on the track, something everyone should try at least once, and the IW 5km and 10km champs are also part of the calendar.
If you don’t fancy the track then, as well as the alternative runs from the rowing club, on opposite weeks to track nights there are multi-terrain runs from Ryde and Sandown as we take advantage of the light evenings to take in some lovely scenery including runs up to the top of Culver Down. In June there is the club 10 mile championship and September sees the 5 mile road championships as well. Something for everyone hopefully! See the Club Events tab for more details.
