Thanks to Ken for these words on Sunday’s race.
Stubbington 10K race. January 17th 2016.
Getting up early on a wet and cold Sunday morning was made worthwhile with the company of a cheerful group of Harriers and a superbly organised Stubbington 10K event. Registration and baggage drop were improved this year and we were even given a long sleeved top as a gift for turning up so we can now fluoresce with the best of them! The largely flat course (by Island standards) led to some fast times and the weather cooperated because the early rain subsided.
It was chilly waiting at the start but not windy so once running I was soon warm. I set off at an ambitious pace and I have Brian Warren to thank for pushing me along. He has been struggling with his form lately so seeing him hurtle past me twice really made me dig in, and based on the probability that he was still just behind me I pushed till the finish and a PB!
Special praise must go to Julie King for 1st vet 50, Andrew McEwan for being first Harrier home, and to Trevor McAlister and Elaine Parry who ran Cross Country races in Reading the previous day….great effort and Trevor got a PB too! Charlotte Pacy also had a great run and a PB. I believe Brian Warren may have beaten the ever cheerful Rosie Eldridge by 5 seconds too, so in buoyant mood insisted we go to the pub afterwards for refreshments and a lengthy discussion of the merits of beating team mates by small margins!
Thank you Harriers for another great day of great running and good company.
