As part of the celebrations to mark the 60th year of the IW Marathon, the UK’s longest consecutively run marathon, we are attempting to get 60 Harriers to run this year’s event. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who has never run a marathon as we are aiming to get groups of similarly paced runners together to train and then run the event together (whisper it so Steve Lee doesn’t hear – it will be run at a social pace to get round not race!).
To start this off we would like to get together after the club night run on May 17th to discuss potential marathoneers’ aims time-wise, to start to gauge the group sizes, to highlight some experienced pacemakers and to give some early training advice. If you can’t make this date then please let me know via email or on Facebook. If you aren’t a member of the club but are interested in doing the marathon then this would be a great time to join us!
We will also be needing some extra help from our friends in the wider Island running community this year. There are many who help marshal or run water stations at a variety of our events but this year we need more help from outside the club than ever due to the numbers of club members running the marathon. We are requesting names, email addresses and phone numbers of anyone who believes they could contribute some time on the day of the event (9th October). This year ALL MARSHALS WILL RECEIVE A FREE T-SHIRT! Please use the contact details on the committee page to email us if you can help.
Let’s make this a fantastic celebration of an iconic Island event that is an historic race for many reasons and is worthy of a big crowd so spread the word to as many people as possible so we can mark sixty years in style.
