Captain’s Report – March 2020

Captain’s Report – March 2020

Well what can I say, other than March has been a turn-up for the books.

The month started off normally, Cliff Morley travelled up to London to race in the Vitality Big Half Marathon. Peter & Jodie Willmott even managed to get away to foreign climes, to run the Malta Half Marathon. I’m glad to say they managed to get back to the UK ok as well.

Charlie Metcalfe represented Hampshire in the Inter-County 20m match, which was hosted by the Essex 20m, it was a tough race in windy conditions. The full report is available Here

10 Harriers travelled to the lovely Rushmore Estate near Salisbury, to take part in the Larmer Tree Half & Marathon. The full report on this is available Here

And then Coronavirus happened…

With no races until the end of May (at the time of writing), as announced by UK Athletics, this has resulted in the following:

Easter races

Ryde Harriers have decided to cancel, rather than postpone, both the Easter races (Newport to Ryde and West Wight 3 Hills), as finding suitable dates for two races is a problem, given all the other race postponements happening. As we have received the medals, we are going to roll entries over to 2021 where you will run for the 2020 medal.

Hampshire Road Race League

The HRRL has voted to suspend the 2019/20 League, so there will be no relegation or promotion, no trophies, no shirts and no mugs this year. Even, in the unlikely event, that any of the remaining 5 races in the 2019/20 league go ahead, they won’t count as HRRL races.

The HRRL has voted to keep the remaining 5 races (Salisbury 10, Alton 10, Netley 10K, Alresford 10K and Lordshill 10K) in the league for 2020/21. Thus, enabling the individual races to offer the option of rolling over race entries to their 2021 races. Salisbury 10m, Alton 10m and Netley 10K have already announced that race entries will be automatically rolled over to their 2021 race.

As there won’t be any race results to report for some time, I will be creating reports on alternative subjects to keep you all entertained. So, keep an eye out on Facebook, subject suggestions welcome.

Many thanks too Keith & Carolyn at ‘Thumbs Up Productions’ for your challenges. Everyone’s Strava Art will make up the next report. (With the exception of the rude ones)
