Captain’s report- January 2017

Captain’s Report – January

Welcome to the first captains report of 2017, sorry its a little late, January seemed to wizz by in the blink of an eye! During January we had both mens and womens teams representing Ryde Harriers in the Hampshire cross country Championships at Fairthorne Manor( near Botley ) .Strong performances from all of our athletes.Well done to Andrew McEwan for achieving 2nd vet 55 postition, fantastic result in a very strong field of runners. The Ladies worked very hard too, working together to achieve very good results well done all.Les Cupis took part in the county to capital ultra 45miles!!!   and completed in a time of 07:22:28 fantastic Les, you are a machine.

We had Stubbington 10k race . A very popular race with a lovely route taking in some beautiful rural roads and countryside. We had a fantastic turn out for this years race, 23 Ryde Harriers took part, we even hired our own mini bus to arrive in style. A thoroughly fantastic day out with great running.A finely planned,  couple of pub stops on the way home to celebrate our own achievments cheers.  Well done Ryde Harriers!!!

January The 22nd saw the first of our 3  cross country fixtures. Kicking off with the Ryde Harriers cross country championship. This race is open to all, but only Ryde Harriers members will win postions within the club. This First race started off the season nicely with suprisingly dry conditions underfoot. A beautifull sunny but chilly day  the conditions could not be more perfect. I was even surpised to not see the large puddle that we splash/wade through at the halfway mark ( for the ladies) A great turnout and a smashing performance from Charlie Metcalf winning the ladies race by quite a large margin. Well done to all competitors, marshalls, organisers, time keepers, and everyone that helped to put on this fantastic event. Looking forward to the next installment on the 19th  of February for the Isle of Wight Championship Lets keep our fingers crossed for similar conditions. See you there xxxxx
