Harriers had a great turnout for both of the races this weekend, the first of which was the Newport to Ryde on Saturday. Conditions underfoot were pretty good going for the most part and the weather was kind, with just a cold(ish) wind. First home for the ladies was Sarah Kavanagh in an official time of 51:13 followed by Julie King in a time of 56:25 (first V50). Elaine Parry put in an impressive run and was third lady Harrier home in a time of 59:43 (first V40). Other Harriers running were Rosie Eldridge (1:00:19) Cherry Shannon (1:01:08) Sam Fancourt ( 1:02:29) Lucy Diamond (1:03:07) Charlotte Pacy (1:03:19) Abi Cooke (1:03:46) Philippa Daley (1:07:58) Clayre Brown (1:23:53) Deb Joy (1:31:05) Angela Lock (1:33:09) Cath Love(1:38:39) Lucy Diamond took the first female junior runner position with the ladies also claiming the first and third team prizes.
Paul Cooke had a notable performance claiming second place in a time of 45:06 (first SM) with Tom Blackwell running well to take third place in 46:58, second senior man. Simon Joy ran the course for the first time in 56:22 followed by other first-timer Sam Cleare (57:15). It was good to see Tom Hill injury-free and back in a Harriers vest coming home in 57:32. Others tackling the course were Ken Beak (59:02) Pete White (1:02:25 and third V60) Richard Lashley (1:03:16) Jay Tuck (1:03:49) Trevor McAlister (1:07:32) Andy Leal (1:07:45). Paul, Tom and Simon claimed the second men’s team prize.
Well done to everyone that took part in this testing course, especially those completing it for the first time.
The second race was the gruelling 3 Hills held in West Wight. Despite the tough terrain the weather was absolutely beautiful, rewarding us all with stunning views. Another great effort from all involved with Adam Tuck first for the boys in 5th position in a time of 50:23, followed by Tom Blackwell in 7th position overall (53:03). Bryan Jones had a top performance after his recent injury placing 3rd V45 in a time of 56:53. Rod Parker put in a strong performance (58:11) followed by Andy Keehn (1:07:31). Other Harriers striding out today were Simon Woods (1:08:00) Ken Beak (1:08:38 – knocking 5 minutes off his previous PB – blimey!) Pete White (1:11:42) Richard Lashley (1:11:58) Jonathan Norton (1:12:54 and 1st V70) and Jay Tuck (1:12:57). Adam, Tom and Bryan formed the men’s team placing second overall – Well done fellas!
Sarah Kavanagh came in 3rd in a time of 58:50 followed by Julie King in 8th position (1:03:27 and 2nd V50). Tracey Dillon cured her cold finishing in 9th place (1:04:58) with Cherry Shannon placing next in a time of 1:08:19. Rosie Eldridge made her 3 Hills debut completing the course in 1:09:12. Philippa Daley and Abi Cooke ran the course together in a time of 1:17:09 and got enthusiastic for fell running in the process! Sarah, Julie and Tracey took home the 1st team prize.
