RYDE HARRIERS FACTSHEET
CLUB NIGHTS
Tuesday night is club night. For the main part of the year we meet at club H.Q. although, from around end-of-May to early September, we alternate between H.Q. and Fairway Sports Centre.
** PLEASE NOTE THAT HAVING
DISPOSED OF OUR OLD CLUB HOUSE,
WITH EFFECT FROM 6th NOVEMBER 2007, TUESDAY EVENING CLUB NIGHTS WILL
BE BASED AT RYDE ROWING CLUB HEADQUARTERS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
START TIMES FOR ALL EVENING EVENTS REMAIN THE SAME AT 7:30.**
The aim is to start all club-night runs at 7.30 p.m.
CLUB NIGHT EVENTS
During the months October – March (inclusive) 5 different Winter Series events are contested with 5 runs in each event
These are:
Points are awarded to runners on the following basis:-
Nominated Points relate to difference between actual time and nominated time in 3-second bands i.e. runner 3 seconds or
less from nominated time scores 30 points; runner 4-6 seconds adrift scores 29 points etc. Therefore runner
between 88-90 seconds adrift will score 1 point ( as will anybody who is more than 90 seconds adrift)
Watches must not be worn during nominated time runs
Handicap First home 30 points; 2nd place 29 points etc. The 30th finisher will therefore score 1 point ( as will anybody
else finishing in a lower position)
Handicap times are calculated using a formula based on previous times. If you feel your handicap is harsh dont worry because everybody else will feel the same way. If however you are given a particularly generous handicap, no doubt your conscience will compel you to inform one of the officials before the race starts (if you dont you can be sure that one of the other runners will!!)
The winner of each weeks event is presented with a plaque to keep for 5 weeks i.e. until that particular event is contested again.
After all 5 runs have been contested in each series the best 4 scores for each runner are added and the runner with the highest cumulative score wins the series and keeps the trophy for ever and a day.
Additional Victor Ludorum awards are made to the individuals with the highest points total spanning all 5 series
It should be made clear that participation in the club-night runs is not compulsory. Some members use the clubhouse purely for social purposes or possibly as a base for a training run of their own choosing. Although Tuesday evening is the main organised weekly get-together many members plan evening/weekend group runs and details can be obtained from club captains.
RULES RELATING TO EVENING RUNNING EVENTS
Do not run more than two abreast.
A white top must be worn.
Club-approved reflective strip must be worn. Ideally the committee wish to see a fluorescent bib with three reflective strips front and back. Alternatively Sam Brown style reflective sashes may be worn. Spare sashes may be borrowed from club officials during first few weeks of membership although you are requested to purchase your own bib at the earliest opportunity ( these can be obtained from the club)
When running please be alert to the safety of fellow runners and motorists as well as to yourself. Remember also that not all motorists are runner-friendly.
Please have consideration for the officials at the end of a run. You will know your time/place soon enough. Seeking
this information whilst officials are recording other runners can cause lack of concentration and risk of error.
SUMMER EVENTS
Following the I. W. Marathon in May, Fairway Sports Centre alternates with Club H.Q. as the Tuesday night meeting place. During the summer months a full series of Track events is contested up to the 10 Kilometre distance. In addition there is a further series of nominated-time road and multi-terrain runs over various distances.
The scoring system for Track events is on an open-race basis i.e.
first home scores most points.
The road series rules/scoring is similar to the Winter Series.
Full details of events/dates/scoring formula etc are agreed by committee some weeks prior to the first event and will be advertised.
